Each year, BHA Western Region runs Harmony Academy, a series of educational events during the weekend of the Western Region Festival. At Harmony Academy, our judges and local BHA education faculty present classes and seminars on barbershop topics in which they have expertise.
This year, we are fortunate to have our three judges - Jen Howson, Alex Morris and Bec Hewitt - presenting our Harmony Academy sessions at the Senior Citizens' Activity Hall at Belmont Hub!
1️⃣ MARRYING MOVEMENT TO THE MUSIC with Jen Howson - 1:30pm
Learn how to create and teach a visual plan that complements and enhances the music, whilst freeing up your best voice and putting on an exciting and fun performance for you and your audience.
Attendees to this session are asked to come with a song to use for the class, ideally one for which they would like to develop a visual plan.
2️⃣ MUSICAL MAP READING with Alex Morris - 2:30pm
When you plug a destination into Google Maps, you instantly know where you're going. But without taking a good look at the whole map, it's hard to have an idea of how you might get there. The same could be said for singers: we get our sheet music, press play on our learning track and studiously learn our part. Learning how we might get from beginning to end both as an individual and an ensemble is vital to the impact of our performance.
3️⃣ QUARTET REHEARSAL TECHNIQUES with Bec Hewitt - 3:30pm
How can we coach the quartet from within the quartet? Discover techniques and strategies you can use in your rehearsals to become your quartet's own fifth ear!
