About this Event
Join us on August 13th for our Lunch and Learn -John Schoenknecht will be presenting Fun at the Beach in the Roaring 1920s
Many people have heard of Waukesha Beach – a large amusement park on the shores of Pewaukee Lake – but few have seen it.
This is your chance to see two remarkable movies of Waukesha Beach – one from 1926 and one from 1929. These films capture the fun and games experienced by the spectators and participants at the amusement park.
If you look carefully, you will also catch a quick glimpse of the streetcar leaving the Milwaukee THERL station on its way to Waukesha Beach.
John Schoenknecht is a retired teacher. He taught Art at from Morgan Butler Middle School in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He has served on the City of Waukesha Landmarks Commission, on the Waukesha County Historical Society Board, and the Executive Board of the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps. He is editor of Landmark magazine, published by the Historical Society. For his work in the restoration of Minniska Spring, Schoenknecht received an award of recognition from the Wisconsin State Historical Society.
After retirement, Schoenknecht wrote a history column for the Waukesha Freeman.
He is that author of several books, including The Great Waukesha Springs Era 1868 - 1918, From Prairieville to Waukesha, and Stereoviews of Waukesha.
John enjoys bike riding, genealogy, gardening, and collecting Waukesha stereoviews.
