2024 Alberta Soils Tour - Boreal Transition Region

The Alberta Soils Tour is an excellent training opportunity for those working with soils, whether the focus is soil conservation, land reclamation, or agronomy. Experts will provide background on soil formation and the various soil profiles for each of the landscapes encountered during the tour. The tour provides hands-on field opportunities for professional development, learning, and collaboration. In 2024, the Alberta Soils Tour will focus on typical soils of Alberta parkland and Boreal Transition ecoregions:

- Black and Dark Gray Chernozems,

- Gray Luvisols,

- sandy Brunisols, and

- wetland soils, including Gleysols and Organic soils

The variety of parent materials covered will include glacial till, glaciofluvial and aeolian sediments, as well as organic deposits.
