About this Event
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s Math & Science Collaborative (MSC), in partnership with Chester County Intermediate Unit's Partnerships for Comprehensive Support & Improvement, is now enrolling teams of mathematics educators and coaches from CSI schools in an 8-part synchronous virtual series - Math Networked Improvement Community (Math NIC).
The purpose of a Math NIC is to help mathematics educators focus on strong Tier 1 instruction and address the systemic issue of inequity in K-12 mathematics. Two Math NICs are available to choose from based on your grade level(s):1) K-5 2) Gr 6-Algebra 1.
Who should participate? CSI schools are encouraged to form a team that is composed of a math coach and at least one mathematics teacher, or two mathematics teachers if a math coach is not available. They will work toward supporting each other throughout the NIC.
What is the focus? Each Math NIC session will deeply focus on a different high-leverage practice through a series of activities, including discussion, analysis and collaborative planning for classroom implementation. Between sessions, AIU MSC coordinators will conduct three virtual check-in meetings with each school building team.
The series will tackle high-leverage practices as follows:

Educators will be required to plan with their math coach or teaching partners to implement each high-leverage practice within their classrooms. Each synchronous virtual session will have time dedicated for grade level teams to plan collaboratively. This planning time will focus on the classroom implementation of one of the high-leverage practices.
In addition to the collaborative planning and teaching model within school-based teams, MSC Coordinators will host 3 virtual “check-in” meetings with each group of teachers from the same school district. During this time, teachers and/or math coaches will share their jointly developed plans for the high-leverage practice, ask questions, and receive feedback from their peers and the MSC Coordinators.
