The 19th annual Transactional Clinical Conference (“TCC”) returns in 2023 to sunny Boston, MA. Join clinicians from across the nation.
About this Event

After a 3-year pandemic pause, the annual Transactional Clinical Conference (“TCC”) returns to provide clinicians with an opportunity to collaborate on refining their craft, both in teaching students and in serving clients. In 2023, we expect 80+ transactional clinicians will unite in the heart of Boston to share ideas and solutions for teaching and practice in an evolving legal landscape. Our goal is to develop innovative tactics to prepare future lawyers and help businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations succeed.

The theme of the 2023 TCC will be “Pivots into Practice – Learning, Doing, and Innovating in the Pandemic’s Wake.” The 2023 TCC Planning Committee invites your proposals for panels, workshops, and posters centered around the following:

The global pandemic and its aftermath created challenges for transactional lawyers, particularly those working in underinvested and under-resourced communities, with black, brown and immigrant communities being the most affected. Challenge creates opportunity and at the same clears the way for innovation. We saw that innovation in clinical pedagogy and in transactional spaces. In turn, transactional practitioners pivoted in representation strategies, practices and targets.

TCC Format for 2023

1. Welcome Reception and Poster Session: The TCC will launch with a “Poster” session at the welcome reception on Friday evening, June 9th. Posters will then be displayed throughout the conference.

Proposal specifications for posters:

  • Posters: Please briefly describe your poster content, noting its relation to the 2023 TCC theme, “Pivots into Practice – Learning, Doing, and Innovating in the Pandemic’s Wake.”

2. Panels and Workshops: On Saturday June 10th, the all-day conference will be centered around plenaries and concurrent sessions of panels and workshops for clinicians to share their innovations in classroom, campus, and community settings.

Proposal specifications for panels and workshops:

  • We encourage clinicians to lead interactive sessions that provide an opportunity for everyone attending to participate. In your proposal, highlight how you will engage your fellow clinicians.
  • The committee welcomes both individual and group proposals. For individual proposals, we may endeavor to assemble presenters on panels organized around a common theme.
  • Given the regular involvement of digital media in students’ and entrepreneurs’ daily lives, presenters are encouraged to utilize videos, pictures, and other fresh content in their presentations.
  • Plan for approximately 45 minutes of time, including presentation, discussion, and questions.

3. Classroom Innovation Roundtable: The conference will also include a Classroom Innovation Roundtable where all Conference attendees will break into small groups to discuss specific topics around classroom innovation. These sessions will be highly interactive, with an opportunity for all to present and discuss. The Roundtables were well-received at TCC Berkeley 2019. Please note, as the roundtables are designed to give everyone time to share, more complex or lengthy presentations should probably be included in a proposal for a panel or workshop instead (see above).

Additional Proposal Information

Please submit proposals by April 12th to TCC Planning Committee member Brenda Smith of American University at [email protected]. Please contact us by email if you have difficulty with any online submissions.

If your proposal or poster presentation is selected, you will need to submit your conference materials online by May 19th.
