MORE INFORMATION:
What inspired you to offer the Summer Film Camp?
Zechariah and Sara, owners of The Beltonian Theatre, have a passion for the arts and education in Central Texas. The past two or three years, The Beltonian Theatre has partnered up with Salado High School, Belton New Tech High School, North Belton Middle School, The University of Mary-Hardin Baylor CRU Films, the Bell County Film Society, and more to screen their award-winning films on the BIG SCREEN. These are bright, creative, award-winning filmmakers. So, we know there is a community of young people in Central Texas who feel inspired to make movies! With the historic venue we have for showing films, it just made sense to bring together that space and these young people, along with a resource like Richard Tolleson to provide a creative outlet for budding filmmakers.
Who is Richard Tolleson and what is his background?
Richard Tolleson is a native of Arkansas who has lived in Temple since 1989. Tolleson was a television news reporter and producer for 19 years in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas. He designed the International Baccalaureate Film program at Temple High School, and taught film at THS for 10 years. Tolleson has also taught various communications classes for UMHB. Tolleson is married to THS Theatre teacher, Natasha Tolleson, and they have 3 children and one grandchild.
Will students be required to bring anything?
Not required but encouraged to bring a personal iPad with iMovie. That way, they can continue to make movies when they return home. Students can bring lunch or purchase from The Beltonian Theatre menu for 50% off. Camp includes 35 hours of instruction, a t-shirt, a digital copy of the student’s project, and a daily afternoon snack of popcorn and a drink. The student film showcase will be Friday, July 9th at 6 p.m. at The Beltonian and will be open for family and friends to screen the final versions of the films that the students made themselves from start to finish.
What kind of filmmaking techniques will they learn?
Students will study classic and seminal films of different genres and styles to inform their work as they write, film, and edit their original projects. We have had Boy Scouts attend in the past and successfully use the film camp towards the majority of one of his merit badge requirements!
***** Make sure you download the registration forms from the web-site and drop off at the theatre in the mail box as soon as you can so that we can order t--shirts and be ready to get started right away Monday morning! You can also e-mail them to [email protected]. ******
