The third annual Smoke on the River BBQ Fest is set to take place at the new Covington Plaza (144 Madison Ave, Covington KY 41011) May 12-14. The event runs from 5p-11p on May 12, 12p-11p on May 13, and 12p-9p on May 14. Admission is free.The event enters its third year, with a bevy of the city’s top pitmasters. After high water levels forced the event to Newport in 2022, Smoke on the River is back at Covington Plaza once again for 2023.
“We are extremely excited to be back once again at Covington Plaza,” Coldiron Enterprises event manager David Wertheim said. “We have worked hard to secure the city’s best pitmasters for this event and are looking forward to serving some mouthwatering barbeque. Delicious food, ice cold drinks, and continuous entertainment is our blueprint and we look forward to putting on another great event.”
Local favorites such as Sweets & Meats, Glier’s Goetta, and House of Brisket will combine with food trucks and festival vendors to create a mouthwatering menu that includes dishes such as a BBQ Pineapple Boat, a Grippos BBQ Sundae, Cherrywood Smoked Sandwiches, and, of course, pig roastings and on-site meat smoking all weekend long.
Beer options include Miller/Coors and various craft beers. There will also be frozen margaritas and famous Ole Smoky frozen bourbon slushies.
For the whole family, there are several non-alcoholic options including Coca-Cola and Pepsi products as well as frozen drinks and fresh squeezed lemonade. There are also inflatables that offer unlimited play with the purchase of a wristband, plus free admission and continuous live music all weekend.
