Competition format:

This contest will follow the ISA Competition format and is subject to the discretion of the Event Director and will follow the standard ISA Double Elimination Format or Qualifying Round Format described below. All athletes will surf in two qualifying rounds heats and the surfers with higher scores will advance to the final round(s). The seeding order for Qualifying Round 1 will be based on the rankings from the 2023 Para Surf League Tour. Athletes will be seeded for Qualifying Round 2 based on the total Qualifying Round 1 points of their two best waves surfed. For the classification to the final round(s), an overall division ranking will be established for each surfer based on the two best waves. You can score points from qualifying round 1 or 2 (the two highest wave scores can be from the same round). Surfers will be seeded into the final round(s) based on their overall ranking. When a tiebreaker is necessary, it will be determined by comparing the best wave of the surfers in question and then, if necessary, wave scores for waves 2, 3 and 4 in descending order, until the tie is broken. All Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals will advance in 50% progression, under the two best waves total system, per the normal ISA Championship Rules in heats of 4 surfers.

CLASSIFICATION:

This event will utilize all 9 divisions based on the SFL/ISA. Specific division information for each division is located below the registration form. All surfers MUST surf in the style/manner dictated in the ISA Rules and Regulations for their division without exception! For Example, in the kneeling division of PS-K, a surfer must be on their knees with their knee(s) in contact with the board. A surfer in the PS-K kneeling division MAY NOT stand on her foot(s) while riding a wave to be judged.

Athletes who are not already must get classified at this event or prior to arrival. unclassified athletes should sign up for the contest in the division they think they will classify into. Those athletes who do not classify into one of the 9 recognized Para Surf Division will be moved and be able to surf in an open division. This division will not be eligible Para Surf League ranking or for cash prizes, but will receive trophies for 1st-4th place. There must be at least 3 athletes to run the division. If not athlete registration fees will be refunded.

Divisions will be split by gender (M/F)men's and wom if we have at least 2 of each gender per division. If not, the division will be combined Male and female. If we get the numbers, we'll divide the divisions. Divisions with low participation will have heats combined with other divisions but will be judged and awarded separately. *We are following the ISA 2021 Para Surf rules at this event, please visit the link below for more information. Go to https://isasurf.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/2021-WPSC-Rulebook-Insert-9-20-21_clean.pdf to view.

For the days of competition, a first call will be made at 6:30am to get started or to give an update on the status of the event according to weather and sea conditions. This call will be made from the main podium through the microphone that we will have on it. Once the competition has started, the judges, the tabulator and the announcer will remain at the judges tents. In one of the beach tents will be the Beach Marshall who distributes the lycras and reviews the competition rules to the athletes. Our volunteers will be ready to assist the competitors as needed, both to move with their wheelchairs, prostheses, and other equipment, as well as to get in and out of the sea, go to the bathroom or shower, etc. In the water, at the short break on the beach we will have the Water safeties, who will be aware of all the participants in case they need any help. On the last day, the award ceremony will be on the the event podiums once the event is over.

Judging Criteria:

The ISA Judging Criteria will be implemented for this event and are defined as follows: Surfers must perform to the ISA judging key elements to maximize their scoring potential. The judges analyze the following major elements when scoring a ride: - Degree of Difficulty and Risk - Innovative and Progressive Maneuvers - Combination of Major Maneuvers - Variety of Maneuvers - Speed, Power, and Flow. NOTE: It is important to note that the emphasis of certain elements depends on the location and conditions of the day, as well as changes in conditions throughout the day. The following scale can be used to describe a rated trip:

- 0-1.9 = Poor

- 2.0-3.9 = Poor

- 4.0-5.9 = Fair

- 6.0-7.9 = Good

- 8.0-10.0 = Excellent

In case that not clear maneuvers are performed during the competition, the judges will observe the Fundamental Criteria of Surfing as described below and will be emphasized in the ISA Judging Criteria under the Degree of Difficulty or Commitment: • Surfers who paddle and catch open waves always they will score higher than surfers who catch whitewater (waves that have already broken and do not reform into open waves). • The surfer who catches an open face wave and rides left or right will score higher than a surfer who catches an open face wave and rides neither left nor right. • The surfer who catches an open face wave and performs a maneuver will get a higher score than a surfer who rides an open face wave to the right or left but does not perform a maneuver. • The surfer who catches an open face wave and travels to the right or left and attempts to perform a maneuver but fails by not completing the maneuver 100 percent (maneuvers must be 100 percent complete), will generally earn a score. taller than the surfer riding left or right on an open wave without attempting to maneuver. • Surfers who perform whitewater maneuvers will only get a higher score than surfers who navigate whitewater without maneuvering.

AWARDS:

The championship finishers in each division will be awarded with trophies as follows:

1st place for each division

2nd place for each division

3rd place for each division

4th place for each division

*There will be a prize pool in cash prizes to be distributed among the winners (how it is distributed will depend on the number of registered divisions and athletes in each division and the number of sponsors). Prize purse for divisions with 3 or less competitors will be awarded to the first place finisher only. Prize Purse for divisions with more than 3 competitors will be divided among the top 2 finishers. Divisions with only one competitor will only pay out the entry fee.
