2023 Orchard Place Moonlight Classic Volunteers

Be a Volunteer for the Moonlight Classic! Help us make the Moonlight Classic an incredible night!

Volunteers needed to set up/tear down, be on the course, either riding or on the sidelines cheering the riders on. We also need volunteers to help put signs up along the route/pick up and place light sticks in the ground at Water Works Park.

Virtual volunteer training will be provided. The training will be recorded and emailed to you the week of the event. Packet/supply pick up will be at the Moonlight Classic Packet pick up on July 12th from 3pm-6pm at Bike World West DM and July 13th from 4pm-6pm at the Iowa Taproom. If you are an Orchard Place or Sammons employee your supplies will be available for pick up at your office. Please reach out with any questions you may have after watching the training.

Join us for this night bike ride through the streets of downtown Des Moines and nearby trails!  Live music and refreshments both before and after the ride. Cruise the streets in the moonlight while helping a great cause - the children of Orchard Place.

Course Marshals (40 needed/at least two volunteers per location): Volunteer course marshals are equipped with a reflective safety vest, cool flashlight and map of your location along the route. Go to that spot no later than 9:30 p.m. (Saturday, July 15) and direct riders, cheer on the participants, and help them as needed. Recruit a friend to register to volunteer too as we need at least two course marshals per location. Youth are also able to volunteer in this role if they are paired with an adult.

Riding Marshals (at least 25 volunteers needed): Ride the Moonlight Classic with a reflective vest on and stop to help any participants you see along the way who may need assistance.

Set Up (10 volunteers needed): Come to the Iowa Taproom at 4 p.m. the day of our event (Saturday, July 16) and help set up tents, tables, etc.

Sign Brigade (8 volunteers needed): Arrive at the the Iowa Taproom at 6 p.m. (Saturday, July 16), receive a detailed instructions sheet for sign locations. Gather and load signs into trucks. Drive the route or ride and place signs out in designated spots. This job is physical and may require lifting 50 pound sand bags. Pick up signs along the route after the rides ends at 11pm.

Packet Pickup (4 volunteers needed ): Give Moonlight Classic participant packets/swag bags and check them in on our registration list on Saturday, July 16th at 7pm-9:30pm. Help people who did not pre-register to sign up and pay using their phones on the day off the event.

Tear down/Clean up crew: Help tear down tables, chairs, tents, and supplies. Load into the truck at 10:30pm at your assigned location. Let’s leave our host sites in great shape.
