About this Event

Every year, since 2020, Everybody Eats Philly hosts their Juneteenth barbecue to celebrate our past, plan for our collective future, and bring Philly together. Philly businesses, big brands, grassroots nonprofits, community builders, and most importantly locals join hands to make our event successful. Last year, we fed 2000 people for free at the BBQ. This year we aim to bring 5000 people to the table.

We’ve partnered with Rabble to make our dreams a reality.

More About Everybody Eats Philly and Our Mission:

Juneteenth is one of the most important celebrations for the Black community. We want to unite Philly by bringing everyone to the table to share a meal and build a stronger community while raising funds to prevent food insecurity in Chester, PA.

As you know, Juneteenth, “Emancipation Day,” or “Freedom Day,” doesn't celebrate the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth celebrates when the last enslaved people were free, two years later when the news of their freedom reached them in Galveston, Texas. None of us are free till we are all free — that’s what we honor.

It was in this spirit of ‘being together’ that we started Everybody Eats Philly. The structural inequities that exist even today and continue to affect Black and other marginalized people have very real consequences, like hunger. BIPOC communities face food insecurity disproportionately.

During the pandemic, low-income neighborhoods like Chester, PA, were barely getting by and were on the verge of becoming a food desert. We — Stephanie Willis, Kurt Evans, Aziza Young, Gregory Headen And Malik Ali — started Everybody Eats with the mission to feed everyone and build a community where no one goes hungry. Since then, we’ve delivered thousands of meals in PA, OH, San Diego and beyond.

We will continue to take care of our neighborhoods, feed people, and fight food insecurity. But we have a big ask — that you join us.

We acknowledge that food insecurity will not disappear without comprehensive systematic changes. But our top priority is our neighbors who aren’t sure where their next meal will come from. And simply by providing them with food, we can make a very real difference in people’s lives. We can take care of each other and show up for our friends and neighbors.

Through small acts of defiance, protests, resiliency, and autonomy, we can create tidal waves of change in our communities. But only if there are enough of us. So, if you are ready to show up for Philadelphia and your neighborhood, join us for the 2023 Juneteenth Soul Food BBQ.
