How better to celebrate the beginning days of spring than attending the 17th annual Florida Wildflower & Garden Festival in downtown DeLand? The festival, presented by the MainStreet DeLand Association, will take over West Indiana Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, with an array of vendors and presentations by wildflower and gardening experts. Vendors will line the street with booths filled with potted wildflowers and seeds, plants and planters, arts and crafts, local honey, decorative home and garden items and much more!
Gardening and wildflower-related topics will be featured from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Athens Theater, 124 N. Florida Ave., adjoining the festival site. Guest speakers include Quality Green Specialists president Dana Venrick ("Growing Olives for the Garden"); UF/IFAS Extension agent emeritus Tom MacCubbin ("Florida Bulbs you Should Grow"); Brittany Council-Morton, UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County ("Landscaping for Pets"); Teresa Watkins, radio host of “Better Lawns and Gardens” ("Wildflower Gardens to Flutter by"); Florida Wildflower Foundation executive director Stacey Matrazzo ("Native Plants for Florida Gardens"); and Dr. Cindy Bennington of Stetson University ("Ten Best Native Plants for a Wildflower Garden").
There also will be talks at Chess Park, which adjoins West Indiana Avenue. Topics include wildlife around the home, organics & soil amendments, and some plant propagation tips.
A free shuttle will run throughout the day between the Wildflower & Garden Festival and the DeLand Outdoor Art Festival at nearby Earl Brown Park, where they’ll be host to artists, crafters, live entertainment, and food trucks.
