We are excited to be back IN PERSON for our Annual Transition Fair. This year’s fair will be on March 25th at the College of Alameda. This educational conference is for students with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families, teachers, case managers, and staff to learn about the transition process and adult services in Alameda County. We will have our Resource Fair, where participants can learn about adult services in Alameda County and connect with local providers. All are welcome!!!

Join us on Saturday, March 25th, from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM for our Educational Workshops and Resource Fair.

New this year, we will be offering a youth workshop designed for young adults to participate in during the fair.

Another new addition will be a roundtable focused on a discussion around healthy relationships, social connections & sexuality.

You will need to register for this event.

When purchasing your ticket, you will need to choose which 3 presentations you would like to attend. Please select 1 presentation from each session.


Session A (9:30-10:45)

1. Legal Decision-Making for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities

This session will discuss three legal processes for legal decision-making on behalf of an adult with developmental disabilities. The following alternatives will be presented: 1) Power of Attorney/Advance Health Care Directive; 2) Supported Decision Making; and 3) Limited Conservatorship.

2. Transition Workshop (Cantonese)This workshop will educate the audience on various transition resources available. This presentation will be in Cantonese.

3. Department of Rehabilitation Student and Vocational Rehabilitation Services Learn about the Department of Rehabilitation (DoR), the services they provide to students, and how they can help in your transition from high school to adulthood and become a partner in achieving your goals of employment and independent living.

4. Nuts & Bolts to Navigating Big Life Transitions This session is a panel presentation. Presentations will cover some of the big life transitions that youth and families face when entering the adult services world. This panel will cover the topics of transportation, housing, and healthcare transition.

5. Continuing Education PanelJoin us to learn about various education options after high school. This presentation will touch on adult education, trade schools, inclusion programs, community college, SAS, and more.


Session B (12:15-1:30)

8. History and Advocacy for the Developmental Disability Community in CaliforniaJoin us to learn about the history of advocacy and learn tools you can use to advocate for yourself or a loved one.

7. Transition Workshop (Mandarin)This workshop will educate the audience on various transition resources available. This presentation will be in Mandarin.

8. Youth DiscussionThis session is for youth ages 14-22 who want to socialize and can safely participate in a discussion independently for 75 minutes. There will be time to socialize and talk about accommodations, transportation, and independence.

9. Transition Workshop (in Spanish)This workshop will educate the audience on various transition resources available. This presentation will be in Spanish.

10. Navigating Self Determination This session is intended to provide an overview of the Self-Determination Program that Regional Centers rolled out on July 1, 2021, and provide insight into the Person-Centered Planning process.


Session C (1:45-3:00)

11. Special Needs Trusts and ABLE Accounts with a Focus on Quality of LifeThis session will discuss how Special Needs Trusts can be established to protect and assist the disabled while protecting their financial interests and eligibility. You will learn what to do to prepare for writing a Special Needs Trust (SNT).

12. Navigating ITP MazeThis workshop focuses on how to use the IEP process effectively for youth with disabilities still in public school (regardless of whether they are on a diploma or certificate track). You will learn about what transition planning is required by law and how to check to see if the IEP transition meets legal requirements so that opportunities for college and future education are available.

13. Healthy Relationships, Social Connections, & Sexuality Panel This is a panel presentation where the audience will about safe and healthy connections. This panel will touch on topics involving healthy boundaries, feelings/emotions, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

14. Work and Benefits Planning Join this session to learn more about the basics of disability-related benefits, healthcare coverage, and how you can manage your benefits while working. Learn where to get help, and what tools are available to you.

15. Integrated Employment & Self- EmploymentThis workshop will provide an overview of employment and job development support options, focusing on competitive, integrated employment including Paid Internships, Tailored Day Services, and Microenterprise
