VFW Post 2661 in Washington, MO is hosting our 2nd Annual Celtic Festival on September 10 at 813 Jefferson St. We start the day at 8am with our 9/11 remembrance ceremony and roll right into the festival, which officially starts at 9am. Come out and experience Scottish and Irish culture by speaking with our family Clan tents, buying from our unique vendors, and interacting with Celtic reenactors. The sound of bagpipes will fill the air throughout the day as our wandering bagpiper walks around the event entertaining folks with his musical talents!
This year is even bigger than last year. We have 3 amazing Celtic bands: Shilleligans, 3 Pints Gone, and the Devines; all will be playing multiple sets throughout the day. We also have super-talented dance performances by the Shamrock Irish Dancers and a local Highland Dancer! We have a petting zoo featuring Highland Coos, face painting, sheep and duck herding, and great Celtic food; all prepared by our own VFW staff! Make sure you try the Celtic Nachos, which pair well with our Irish Red Ale produced by Washington MO’s own Deep Sleep Brewing Company! Guinness and domestic beers, wines, liquors, and of course Scotch and Irish Whisky will also be available for purchase.
Also new this year, we have the fighting knights of St Louis Legion Honor; a team of talented athletes that dress out in REAL armor and fight each other with REAL edged weapons!
The VFW ALWAYS tries to support local businesses whenever we can. For an additional fee, attendees 21 and over have the opportunity to taste LOCALLY MADE coffees, wines, beers, and whisky at our tasting tent!
Of course, no Celtic Festival is complete without Highland Games! Our event is unique in that our games are interactive and participatory! Anyone who wants can sign a medical waiver and get out on the field to learn how to throw Highland Games implements from the amazing athletes of Ancient Athletics. Kiddos won’t be left out of the games, as we have a smaller version of the highland games set up to accommodate their smaller stature!
The VFW promotes enlistment in our armed forces, so all Branches of the military have been invited to have a recruiter on site to answer any questions you may have about serving in the greatest Military in the world! The VFW booth has information about joining our organization and getting Veterans access to the care and benefits they’ve earned! Before you leave for the day, be sure to donate to our Buddy Poppy Drive and take a tour of our beautiful history-rich VFW Hall, which is the ORIGINAL John B. Bush Mansion!
General Admission for ages 13 and older is $15; Children 6-12 are $5; children under 6 are FREE; and Veterans and First Responders get in for only $10! A family pass for 2 adults and up to 3 children is available for $35.
The VFW is TRULY honored to be able to provide this unique festival to Washington and the Franklin County, MO area!
