About this Event
We are excited to be gathering for another Treasure Valley Writers' Fest. This year's topic is "Get Right With Your Writing. " If you have questions, we have answers. We want to come alongside you to make sure you are staying encouraged on your journey. We will be offering a variety of workshops throughout the day. Here is a sneak peek into the day!
GETTING BACK TO THE BASICS
We tend to overcomplicate things when it comes to our writing. It can be good to slow down and get back to the basics. Let’s talk about the five W’s of our writing to get a clear direction as to where we are going.
TO WRITE OR NOT TO WRITE
In our writing journey, we go through seasons of inspiration and seasons of drought, or do I mean doubt? We all fall victim to writer's block and doubting our abilities, but the question is what do you do during those off times? Do you wait for your muse to sing to you, or do you go searching for her? During this workshop, we will talk about different things to do in your waiting and offer you tools to help you search for inspiration.
WHOSE HEAD ARE YOU IN?
Did you know there are five types of narrative point of view? Finding the correct point of view is a vital tool in developing your characters, so that the reader can see, think and feel what's happening in your story. Yet, which viewpoint do I need to use? Do I need more than one? How do I master head-hopping? Join us to help shape your narrative's point of view.
DOES TENSE MAKE YOU TENSE?
Let me help you out. You’re not alone. Staying consistent with the use of the proper tense throughout your project is a common problem and can be confusing. We will explore some tips on how to be watchful in your writing.
ADDING COLOR TO YOUR STYLE
Do you ever feel like your books or your marketing campaigns are too black and white? Do your characters feel underdeveloped or inconsistent in their personality? We want to help you go from monochromatic to a vibrant blend of colors to help you develop well rounded characters, story lines, and marketing abilities.
MAKING YOUR MANUSCRIPT SPARKLE
One of the most valuable skills a writer can have is to be able to submit a clean copy of their work, a properly formatted and edited narrative that meets the publisher's guidelines. The more you edit, the more an editor or publisher wants to see your projects. It's what separates the new from the seasoned writers and gives a publisher the reason to get your work out to the public, with few revisions. Let us help you work toward a finely edited narrative in your near future.
SPECIAL SPEAKERS
We will have two special speakers joining us. One will be sharing information on publishing options. The other will give us tips on public speaking, a skill every writer needs to develop.
