ROMEO & JULIET by William Shakespeare -- Heat! Passion! Voodoo! Rival houses at war! Set against the backdrop of a steamy southern bayou, this Mardi Gras melodrama breathes life into a time-honored tragic tale. The Montagues and the Capulets co-exist under the stern eye of the Prince, but the hatred between the families threatens all, in particular the children. The young men of both families are hot-blooded and ready to fight at any provocation, despite the Prince's edict against such fights. When young Romeo, a Montague, first sets eyes on the virtuous Capulet daughter Juliet, no malice between families can prevent his falling in love with her, and her with him. From this risk-laden romance comes both joy and tragedy for all. Features live music!
Bright Star
From Grammy®, Emmy® and Academy Award®-winning Steve Martin and Grammy Award-winning Edie Brickell comes Bright Star, the five-time Tony®-nominated, new Broadway musical that The New York Times called a shining achievement. Inspired by a real event, this original musical tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and '40s. Billy Cane, a young soldier just home from World War II, meets Alice Murphy, the brilliant editor of a southern literary journal. Together they discover a powerful secret that alters their lives. Propelled by an ensemble of onstage musicians and dancers, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion, beautiful melodies and powerfully moving performances. Bright Star—as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful! Features a live bluegrass band.
Something's Afoot
Ten people are stranded in an isolated English country estate during a raging thunderstorm. One by one they are picked off by cleverly fiendish devices in mysterious (and hilarious) ways. The bodies begin to pile up in the library as the survivors frantically race to discover the identity and motivation of the cunning culprit. Complications arise along with floodwaters, power failures, and suspicious behaviors in this musical spoof that takes a satirical jab at Agatha Christie M**der mysteries. Features the RTF band.
Noises Off
For those who love a good British farce, imagine the joy of being able to watch the mayhem going on behind the scenes. Imagine no longer as we bring you “backstage” during the rehearsals and performances of a comedy that goes hilariously wrong over its months of production. As this troupe of actors presents an awful flop called Nothing’s On, doors slam, cues are missed, and lives and careers dangle in the balance during what has been called “the funniest farce ever written.” Come laugh your sardines off as you experience possibly the most horrendously funny performance ever presented.
Life Sucks.
In this wise, profoundly humane, endearingly brash, hilarious, quirky, and clever reworking of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, a group of old friends, ex-lovers, estranged in-laws, and lifelong enemies gather to grapple with life’s thorniest questions -- and each other. What could possibly go wrong? Brilliantly faithful to its origin, Life Sucks. is a light and airy conversation-starter that’s just satirical enough to fulfill those who’d rather sit in traffic than watch anything by Chekhov, and accurately Chekhovian enough to please those who love the source play. Incurably lustful and lonely, hapless and hopeful, these seven souls collide and stumble their way toward a new understanding that LIFE SUCKS! Or does it?
