Dr. Williamson currently works at the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education but is perhaps best known as a "hard but fair" adult educator in her roles as an instructor and assistant/associate professor at Durham Tech, NC Central University, Mount Olive University, Shaw University, and Anderson University. She has served on the NCAEYC Board of Directors as the Advocacy chair and is one of three founders of the NCAEYC Equity in Early Childhood Circle.
