About this Event

Historical Memory: Triumph, Trauma, and Truth

This year's theme will focus on how the commemoration of historical moments informs our understanding of history. In recent years people across the globe have engaged in debates over the portrayal of historical figures and the impact statues, memorials, building namesakes, and textbooks play in constructing historical memory. How can we use current controversies to engage a broader discussion of the past by including a wider narrative, more diversity, and empathy to contribute to the complexity of understanding?

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Lauren Harris, Arizona State University
