Hello Underwater Hockey Players Worldwide,
The Orange County Octopush Underwater Hockey team (OC Octopush) is pleased to announce that the 2021 Pacific Coast Championships will be back in Southern California, but this time in the City of Costa Mesa. That’s right, for the very first time in…"The OC." The city of Costa Mesa is located in Orange County, California in the Los Angeles Metropolitan region.
After a COVID year that we all persevered through, we are grateful to be putting on this event for the UWH community. This tournament will be operating under new norms and there are factors outside of our control that we don’t yet know, but we believe that we can make this a safe and fun event for all.
The OCC Aquatics Pavilion is a brand new “world class” aquatics facility with construction being completed this past year. Not only will this be the first Underwater Hockey tournament at this facility, but I’m also pleased to report that this will be the first ever event held at this pool. This campus is where we played our first game of OC Underwater Hockey and I am pleased that we are coming full circle by hosting this event.
We are placing an emphasis on referees and working with a new concept to help provide a tournament with quality individuals to referee games.
We thank you for your interest in attending our tournament, registration information is below. We are looking forward to seeing you in October!

COVID-19 Concerns/Restrictions:
Our Facility has special Covid restrictions in place for everyone’s safety and we, the tournament organizers, will be in constant communication with our pool management to make sure our tournament is in alignment with all City/State policies and guidelines.
1. The health and safety or our players and guests is our upmost priority. If you are sick or feel ill, please do not plan on coming to this tournament, otherwise, please follow all health and safety guidelines when traveling to California.
2. As of current facility guidelines, a face covering/mask is required indoors at all times.
3. There will be no food provided for players. The food tables of past tournaments will not be feasible this year. This will be a BYOF(bring your own food) tournament. Water/Gatorade bottle station will be provided.
a. During the tournament(Sat/Sun) the OCC Swap meet will be in progress right outside the pool featuring a variety of food and beverage vendors for tournament attendees to support.
We will update this listing, as more information is available closer to the event weekend.
Registration and Tournament Rules:
There will be 2 divisions at PCCs, an Open and a Mixed. Mixed Division games require that there be two(2) female players in the field of play at all times. We ask that you register your team in the division appropriate to the strength of your team.

Referee rules for all teams:
1. Each team is responsible for bringing a dedicated water referee* to be employed by the Chief Referee for the entire tournament.
*Team dedicated referees must be individuals that meet the minimum requirements of being a certified level-1 UWH referee or be an UWH player who has at least 5 years’ experience playing UWH. Dedicated referees get free access to the banquet and Tourney swag.
2. Alternatively, if the team is unable to provide a qualified referee, 4 players are to be pre-designated as player-referees to be used at the discretion of the Chief Referee for the duration of the tournament. The thought is they would be pre-scheduled rather than Minnesota ruled as needed (max 3 games a day)
There will also be a modified Minnesota rule in place, before every game, each team is to provide 1 player to perform a dry Ref activity(this is either to deck referee, score keep or video for the following game). Teams that do not offer to provide a player will be penalized during their next game.
It is our hope that this will elevate the overall level of play by ensuring higher quality and more consistent officiating as well as allowing players to focus more on their respective games.
Your tournament signup sheet will capture the information regarding referees for your team. It is the team\s responsibility to coordinate and support their dedicated refs.
Referee Clinics:
Level 1 and Level 2 ref clinics may be available before the tournament on Friday, October 15th or digitally, more info to follow!
USOA & Fees
All players must be members of USOA Underwater Hockey. No money or waivers will be accepted at the pool. All USOA fees and waivers must be submitted by Oct 3rd, 2021 We will obtain the list of paid dues and signed waivers to cross-check with our rosters on that date, and anyone who has not completed this task by the due date will not be permitted at the tournament until USOA Membership is up to date.
Dinner and Awards Banquet:
Banquet details are still in the works, but plan on a 6pm dinner on Sunday after the tournament. We will keep you posted as we get closer to the event! Banquet tickets are included in price of registration for all players and referees. Additional tickets will be made available for friends and family at a later date/time.
