What is a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk?The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk Series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.
Honor all of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and support our first responders and military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty! For more information on the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, please visit www.tunnel2towers.org.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of 9-11 and we expect this to be our biggest and best year yet! Please join us as we remember.
How far is a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk?
This is a 5K (3.1 miles). You are welcome to walk or run this event.�
This is a timed event but please note if you register after Thursday September 30, 2021 you will not be timed.
Where and when can I pick up my packet?�

Can I register the day of the Run & Walk?
Yes. Registration will open at 6:30 a.m on the day of the run. Please note that we will have paperless registration. All registrants will be required to scan a Q-code to register on their phone with their credit card. No chip timing will be offered for same day registrants.
We anticipate this being a big year because of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 so we highly encourage you to register early to ensure you receive a t-shirt and the size you would like. Those who wait after September 1 will not be guaranteed shirt sizes. Same day registrants will not be guaranteed a shirt.
When does online registration close?
Online registration will not close until after the run begins but we will not offer CHIP TIMING for any registrants who register after Thursday September 30, 2021.
What time does the event begin?
The ceremony will start at 7:30am and the race will start promptly at 8:00am.
Is there parking available?
Yes, parking is available at the Paulus Park lot and across the street.
Do I have to wear my bib number?
Yes, please display your bib on the front of your outermost garment. Those who run/walk without a bib will be asked to leave the course and will not be allowed to finish.
I am a fast runner. Can I get a front line position?
Faster runners should position themselves to the front of the corral.
Will water be available?
Yes, a water station will be available along the route at the American Legion on Lions Drive. the Finish Line.
What can you bring to the event? Can I run with a stroller, backpack, wheelchair, roller blades, dogs, bicycle, etc?
Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted. Firefighter turnout gear and military backpacks are also permitted.
Running/walking with flags is encouraged. Please leave all other personal items and valuables in your vehicle. All items should be stored securely at the owner's risk. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation will not be responsible for the loss of any items.
Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
Yes, they can. They must present a copy of your registration receipt.
Can I still donate to a team and/or individual after the start of the race?
Yes. Donations will be accepted for 6 weeks after the event.
How can my company/organization sponsor this event?

Does my registration fee count towards my fundraising goal?
Registration fees help offset some of the expenses associated with making the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk one of the country’s greatest annual events, however your fundraising efforts enable us to continue to make a difference in the lives of so many in need.
Does Tunnel to Towers offer fundraising incentives?
Yes, we offer fundraising incentives each year; check out our latest in our Fundraising Guide. To qualify, complete your fundraising by June 30, 2021 for winter and spring events, or October 10, 2021 for summer and fall events.
Do registrants get receipts?
When you register online you should automatically receive a receipt. If paying by credit card or check that is your receipt. If paying in cash, receipt upon request.
Is there a medical staff available on-site?
Yes, there will be an Emergency Medical Service team available on site. There is also radio communication available on the course to help communicate with the EMS.
What safety measures are you taking in regards to COVID-19?
We will be abiding by all local and state guidelines in regards to masks and social distancing. Stay tuned for updates as the event gets closer.
Why is it required to answer YES or NO to the Covid-19 vaccination question?
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has followed all protocols and guidelines implemented since COVID-19 was first declared a pandemic. Each city and state currently has their own regulations in place, and Tunnel to Towers must be prepared and collect all data for whatever new guidelines may be implemented.
What is the difference between the Virtual Run registration option and the others?
As a virtual participant, you will be able to run or walk the event from anywhere. If you’re unable to attend the event or are hesitant about going out, you can still participate and support. Please note that you will receive a t-shirt with this registration option but you must pick up your shirts at the scheduled packet pick up for the event. We will not ship or mail any t-shirts.
