The Longevity Project will be capped with the Steamboat Pilot & Today hosting a two-hour event featuring keynote speaker Kevin Hines and Meghan Francone, suicide prevention coordinator for REPS (Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide) in Moffat County.
Hines is an award-winning global speaker, best-selling author, documentary filmmaker, and suicide prevention and mental health advocate who has reached millions with his story of an unlikely survival and his strong will to live. Two years after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, he attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Since the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, thousands of people have tried to K*ll themselves by leaping. Only 34 have lived. Kevin Hines is one of them.
Francone will present training in QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) — the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.
The Longevity Project is a weeks-long annual project by The Steamboat Pilot & Today to educate our readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life. This year’s project will focus on the critical and relevant topic of mental health.
