For more than 44 years, Arms Wide Adoption Services has provided foster care, adoption, post adoption, and post permanency services, all at no cost, to children in the Texas foster care system and their families. Since its inception in 1977, Arms Wide Adoption Services has placed more than 2,200 children from the Texas foster care system in loving permanent families, enabling them to experience the joys of childhood in a supportive home and giving them the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Hosted on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at The Briar Club, Arms Wide Adoption Services’ annual Fulfilling Families Luncheon furthers our mission of transforming the lives of children in foster care who are in need of safe and nurturing permanent families. Registration opens at 11:30 AM and the program begins at noon.
Co-Chairs: Jill George Bomar and Alison Powell
Host: Frank Billingsley
We are thrilled to have April Dinwoodie as the 2021 Fulfilling Families Luncheon Keynote Speaker. April Dinwoodie is an accomplished corporate marketing and branding professional turned nationally-recognized voice on adoption, foster care, and multiracial/multicultural families. From creating a mentoring program for youth in foster care to becoming the CEO of the Donaldson Adoption Institute (DAI), April is fiercely dedicated leader helping individuals, systems, and corporations as they address the urgent and age-old questions of identity, values, and differences of race, culture, and class. Dinwoodie has created and hosts several podcasts including “Born in June, Raised in April: What Adoption Can Teach the World!” which helps to educate and inspire conversation about adoption, identity, and family diversity.
We will also welcome Danielle Smith as a special guest speaker. Ms. Smith is a recent graduate of Prairie View A&M and received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Legal Studies. After being adopted at the age of 4 through Arms Wide Adoption Services (then Spaulding for Children), she found herself with an adoptive family who loved her unconditionally and pushed her to be the best version of herself. We are excited to welcome Ms. Smith and have her share her experience.

We care about the health and safety of our guests. The CDC recommends vaccinations for all individuals and that everyone, including those who are vaccinated against COVID-19, wear a mask in public indoor settings if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission. Therefore, Arms Wide encourages Luncheon guests to be vaccinated and to wear masks and engage in social distancing during the event when possible.
Additionally, we will implement several modifications in effort to keep guests safe and comfortable during the event. Venue capacity will be 50%, and guests will have access to immediate table seating to minimize congestion at the entryway. Weather permitting, guests may also use the spacious, covered balcony to socialize during the reception, and doors to the dining area will remain open to maximize air flow. Hand sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the venue, and all event staff will be masked. Guests will have the option of complimentary valet parking or self-parking, which is available on the 3rd floor of the garage connected to the Briar Club via the Skybridge. Those who self-park may walk directly across the Skybridge to the check-in station on the outdoor balcony.
