A specialist Foundation Yoga Teacher Training Course to nurture a new generation of teachers who can embody compassion, equality, radical acceptance, vulnerability, bravery, strength, surrender, body positivity, self-love, connection, honesty and stability in their own yoga practice and in what they go onto share with others. These are the values of Womankind Yoga.
This will be paved out through a deep process of self-development, with the study of yoga philosophy, asana, pranayama & sound, meditation, anatomy and practices of deep rest.
Syllabus summary
Yoga and You 20hrs
Meeting yourself as you are – the starting points for yoga and the journey of self-development. Tailoring personal practices to nourish and support you throughout the training. Group discussions and exercises to encourage self-development and healing. Regular reflections on your observations, obstacles and progress. Peer and tutor support.
Asana 40hrs
Warming up the body; jattis and kriyas. Graduation into movement with breath. Exploring and embodying key asanas and what they bring us.
Key introductory movements for ease in daily life.
Including: Variations of surya namaskar, standing postures, sitting postures, inversions, seated postures, twists and forward bends.
Appropriate use of props and using verbal queues for adjustments (also see teaching skills). Use of Sanskrit.
Pranayama (breathwork) 30hrs
As a foundation for life and practice, including Loma-Viloma Pranayama, Nadhi Shodhana, Bhramari Pranayama, Ujjayi, Kumbhaka Pranayama.Bhakti Yoga 10hrsConnect to the yoga of devotion and unlock a lifetime of healing potential. An introduction to sound, mantra and chanting. With guest yoga teacher, Ruth Harlow.

From a woman’s perspective including:

Anatomy & physiology for women 10hrs
With guest tutor, yoga teacher and Osteopath, Jeni Sloane.How we apply anatomy to yoga, how to identify key parts of the body we study, muscle use in poses and what this means for the female body.
Yoga for Women Today 25hrs
How yoga can support us in all stages of life
Basic introductions & considerations when teaching younger women, pre and post-natal yoga, yoga for perimenopause and menopause.
How Yoga can support our mental health and practices to ease stress, depression and anxiety
Using yoga to empower the women you work with
Teaching skills 15hrs
Being your authentic self and finding your yoga
Teaching your truth
Creating safe and welcoming spaces, trauma awareness
Reading your space and how to communicate clearly
Ethical considerations and boundaries. Considered use of adjustments.
Adapting postures to suit different bodies

Teaching from 1-2-1, small groups and large classes

Choosing a venue and what that can mean for your class
Building a yoga business unique to you – from creation to audience and marketing

Assessment
Group discussion and participation
Teaching to the group, giving and receiving supportive feedback
Monthly homework tasks, including specific asana and pranayama personal practice.
Written reflections on practices and topics covered in current module. Reading from reading list 15hrs
A piece of individual written coursework 5hrs
Schedule180hr contact hours in group, over 12 weekend modules from Autumn 2024-Autumn 2025.
Option for a Four Day Residential Intensive in March 2025 (at a separate location in Wales) decided by the group. Cost approx £250pp billed separately.

Dates
Saturdays and Sundays, from 9am - 4pm
From September 2025 - August 2026, one weekend a month. Full dates available upon request and with application.
Fee
The full cost will be £2,500. Monthly payment plans available.

You will receive training and assessment by a qualified Yoga Alliance Professionals Senior Yoga Teacher.
You will receive a full course manual.
The fee does not cover food, accomodation or travel expenses.
Entry requirements
At least two years steady practice, including one year of regular practice with a teacher, who can provide a reference.
The course is open to anyone who identifies as a woman.
At the end of the course you will be a 200hr certified Yoga Teacher at foundation level with Yoga Alliance Professionals.
You can undertake the course with the intention of becoming a teacher or for self-development only.
