Alan Parrish, Underwriting Counsel and Director of Agent Education for the Southeast Region for Stewart Title Guaranty Company.

Mr. Parrish received his law degree from Stetson University College of Law in 1987 and began his career in the private sector emphasizing real estate litigation, foreclosure and transactional law. In 2002, Mr. Parrish joined STG to handle title insurance claims and prior to assuming his current position in 2018, he was responsible for management of STG title claims arising throughout the southeastern United States as a National Claims Counsel. His current role is focused on Florida underwriting and providing educational opportunities to STGC customers. On a personal note, Mr. Parrish became a proud grandfather to a bouncing baby grandson in February of 2021.

A 2 hour presentation on FIRPTA, FINCEN, & FRAUD for the real estate professional. On FIRPTA, we will discuss who is liable under the act for payment and collection of the tax and we will review sales contract provisions on FIRPTA. We will finish up with a discussion of commonly asked questions and myths about the Act. On FINCEN, we will discuss how FINCEN affects a real estate transaction and include a discussion of Contract provisions from the FL FR/BAR Contract. We will also explain the need for FINCEN provisions to be included in the title commitment. We will conclude with a presentation of real life examples of fraud schemes you should be aware of along with verification methods to assist in stopping the ‘bad guy’ . Among the topics included, we will discuss Imposter fraud where parties purport to be sellers of property, cashiers check fraud and the use of public records to defraud innocent parties.
