2 days Butoh workshop – Breath dance

Breath dance is a term for movement practice inspired by the Butoh in which the conscious control of breathing is said to influence a person's physical state and dance exploration.

Breath is the essence of life. All living beings on the planet breathe. We inhale fresh oxygen and thus nourish our being and body and we exhale carbon dioxide and toxins cleansing our organism. When our body is still we continue to dance by breathing. Breath is our first and fundamental partner the rhythm and melody by which we dance. By focusing on breathing we are present in the moment space and time. Breath is inspiration a driver and the creative force of the being.

By concentrating on breathing and listening to the subtle changes in body prepare your bodymind to listen to the subtle signals from the subconsciousness. This signals and impulses lead body into the movement. 

In this workshop we will explore the possibilities of developing movement through various breathing techniques how breath influences movement and the capabilities of the body affected by breathing. By focusing on breathing we will bring the body into a state of open subconscious from which we draw inspiration for movement.

This workshop is open to everybody: professional performers like actors and dancers and also for those who are not experienced in Butoh or performing art. There is no age gender disability or any other limitation.

We welcome all who are interested in BUTOH and experimental dance practice.
