2-Day Pottery Course: Ceramic Plant Hanger

Students will develop a basic foundation in ceramic arts geared towards beginners. Those with an intermediate skill level are welcome as well, but should anticipate this course to be an introduction to the medium.

Day 1 of this course will cover a basic introduction to the main types of hand-building techniques: pinch pots, coil and slab building. The focus will be slab technique to create a hanging planter, using a mid-fire clay body (firing to cone 5-6). Decorative techniques using stamps, cookie cutters, and texture lace will be provided to potentially use in the design. Students may bring their own decorative tools to create personalized pieces.

The second day of this course will take place three weeks later, as the pieces will need to slowly dry, and be bisque fired prior to glazing. During the second day, the student will glaze their piece using premixed coyote, amaco or mayco glazes supplied by Gloria.

The pieces will then be kiln fired by the instructor and then the students will be called when the pieces once available to pick up at the store, within 1-2 weeks after glazing (the second day).

The 2-day course occurs on:

• Tuesday, November 9th from 2 pm – 4 pm AND
  
• Tuesday, November 30th from 2 pm – 4 pm
  

Ticket Cost: $60, materials and supplies included.

Materials will include clay, glazing, and pottery tools.

The students will leave the course with an understanding of clay as a medium, an acquired hand building technique, and a glaze fired finished hanging planter.
