Elevate your skills on this two-day course inspired by the Museum’s collection and led by experts from Hand & Lock, London’s premier embroidery house.
The poppy has been a symbol of remembrance for over a century. In that time, it has been used as an emblem of loss, love, art and creativity.
On this special weekend course, take inspiration from the historic poppies in our collection and develop your own embroidery skills under specialist supervision from Hand & Lock.
Attendees will learn traditional stumpwork embroidery techniques including: design transfer, beadwork, chipping, how to create 3D shapes with wire, and how to create wrapped stems.
Day 1: Saturday 31 October
10.00am – 4.30pm
In the morning, a curator will highlight the history of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance and will present some of the historic poppies that form part of the National Army Museum’s collection. A specialist from Hand & Lock will then discuss the techniques used in the embroidery.
After lunch, you'll take part in an embroidery class and have a go at a design inspired by the items you've seen.
Day 2: Sunday 1 November
10.00am – 4.30pm
On Day 2, you’ll continue to work on your design in our embroidery class.
