About this Event

This 2 day course will introduce you to some of the fundamental metal work processes involved when working with copper. This practical course is suitable for people at any skill level who want to further their knowledge and practical ability in a structured learning environment.

You will design and make your own copper work for you to keep.

No previous experience or qualifications are required for this course. Suitable for complete beginners or more experienced art makers who want to expand their knowledge of precious metal work.

Techniques covered

1. Decorate metal surfaces with texture and pattern

2. Anneal and pickle metal

3. Saw, pierce and hammer copper

4. Soldering

5. File and finish

6. copper etching

You will learn how to manipulate copper metal to produce the most amazing natural shapes and forms that can then be turned into an art object.

With guidance from your tutor, you will learn how to heat and form a flat sheet of metal by blocking/sinking using a specialist hammer and sandbag. You will then learn how to form the metal as much or little as you wish to create a bowl that is truly unique. Finally when you reach your desired shape you will learn how to planish the piece to give a lovely even hammered surface.

On day 2 we will consider all types of etching. This is an intensive practical workshop involving measuring, making, texturing, colourising and finishing with a copper etched artwork to take home.

By the end of the 2 days you will have made a copper decoration and copper bowl to take home.

Loads of tips, hints and plenty of background information from our fully trained & experienced silversmith.

Copper included in the price.

We keep class sizes low to ensure the tutor gets to spend plenty of 1 on 1 time with each attendee.
