1st Annual Chatham Literacy Summit
About this Event
Savannah has one goal: 95% of 3rd graders reading at grade level by 2031. On September 16th, the community gathers to see where we stand, hear from the people driving the change, and publicly commit to making it happen.
This annual event brings together education leaders, business owners, community partners, and Savannah residents for a full morning of education, information, and inspiration — grounded in real data, real results, and a real plan.
What to expect:
- Coffee available at 8:00 am
- A national perspective on literacy transformation — what's working in communities across the country, how long it takes, and what the keys to success look like, from Kareem Weaver of Fulcrum
- Presentation by Comer Yates of the Atlanta Speech School on the importance of a child’s brain development from prenatal to Pre-K.
- Presentation by Jessica Sliwerski on the proven strategies to achieve our “95 in 5” goal.
- An update from SCCPSS on the district's strategic plan, Unlimited Possibilities, and its plan to achieve its “95 in 5” goal.
- Update from the Moonshot's five Lines of Effort — Early Learning, Direct Instruction, Family Support, Education Workforce, and Community Public Education Culture
- The public unveiling of the Chatham Literacy Moonshot community campaign
This is not a lecture. Savannah is choosing what kind of city it intends to be — one where every child has access to everything reading makes possible.
