Last year, 463,000 people joined unions in the United States bringing the total union membership to 16.5 million workers. That's the best unionization rate in years. Labor fights occurred across the country including in our area. One of the highlights here was the enormous Fix Tier 6 rally in Albany in March. Another victory was the NYSNA nurses at Albany Medical Center winning a good contract. But it wasn't all good news. There were relentless attacks on working people and unions by the Federal Government. And the old saying, "The poor got poorer and the rich got richer," has never been truer in America than now.
It is in this context that we will come together to honor labor's contributions. The 19th Annual Capital District Area Labor Federation will take place on June 4, 2026 at the Desmond Hotel. We are honoring Melinda Person, President of NYSUT, Wayne Spence, President of PEF, Ed Nadeau, President of Local 7 Plumbers and Steamfitters and Kate Breslin, President, Schuyler Center.
