This deeply important film unpacks a truly shocking discovery by modern researchers: That prior to 1946, the word “homosexual” did not appear in any Bible translations. But that year, a textually incorrect decision by theologians creating “The Revised Standard Version” committee, did include it.
That decision, and that word, then “jumped the shark” into dozens of evangelical and Bible church translations, causing generations of harm.
Masterfully tying together the potentially dull field of Biblical interpretation, the journey of “theological deconstruction” (that many people take today), and intensely inspiring stories of the faithfulness of LGBTQ Christians and their allies, everyone needs to see this film.
Who would benefit:
1. Anyone who wants to know “What does the Bible say about homosexuality?”
2. Anyone who has been harmed by anti-queer churches or theology.
3. Allies and friends of the LGBTQ community.
4. United Methodists, and other Christians, seeking to understand our own history, and our present reality.
ALL ARE WELCOME!
Kessler Park UMC is intentionally open and welcoming to all people in the LGBTQ community, without exceptions or hidden tricks, as a proud member of the Reconciling Ministries Network.
