17th Annual Liar's Contest at Indiana State Fair

A collaboration with the Indiana State Fair
Join us at the Indiana State Fair to spin a tall tale or whopper. This is your chance to shine and wow the audience and judges.
All ages are invited to tell and no experience is necessary. If you are too shy for the stage, come cheer on the competitors. Participation in the Liar’s Contest is free with admission to the Indiana State Fair. The contest will take place in the Pioneer Village building.
State-fair ribbons are awarded in Adult and Youth (17 and under) categories, along with the following cash prizes:
1st place: $100
2nd place: $50
3rd place: $25
RULES
1. The contest is open to Indiana residents only.
2. The “lies” should range in length from 3 – 5 minutes.
3. All contestants must register at 6:30 p.m. in the Pioneer Village Building.
4. Judging will be done by a panel of storytelling enthusiasts who will score each contestant in the following categories on a scale of 1 to 5, up to 20 points.
Technique – Delivery, confidence, general stage presence
Story Development – Development of the story in time available
Originality – New material, or fresh handling of a familiar tale
Effectiveness – Judges’ opinion and audience response
5. Final scores will not be shared with the contestants.
6. In the case of a tie, the judges will confer to break the tie.
7. The decision of the judges will be final.
8. All tales will be recorded. Clips and stories will be shared on our social media and YouTube channel.
