Join us for the 17th Annual Roots & Wings Literary Arts Festival at the Langston Hughes Community Library & Cultural Center!

Info: This panel will feature the co-authors of Growing Up in Corona-
East Elmhurst, alongside Dr. Bessie W. Blake — award-winning
author of Love Lifted Me …from sharecropping to Harvard!, Speak
to the Mountain, and God’s Bad Boy — and her husband James
Blake, whose life story is captured in God’s Bad Boy. Together,
they’ll reflect on neighborhood histories, personal journeys,
and generational change in Corona-East Elmhurst, a community
that has shaped all their lives.

Info: Celebrating local scholars, this session explores how
community roots shaped groundbreaking work on African
American rhetoric and Malcolm X’s legacy.

Info: Highlighting Where I’m From: Growing Up in Hip Hop, this session
traces how East Elmhurst roots led to collaborations with Hip
Hop legends and enduring classics.
