16th Annual Walk to End Homelessness

Register today to take part in this meaningful annual event in which our entire community takes a stand - and a walk - against homelessness. This is an awareness-building event and funds raised go toward the New London Homeless Hospitality Center, the region's largest homeless shelter serving adult men and women in southeast Connecticut, through an emergency shelter, very low-cost housing, and homelessness prevention. Be inspired: How many people and community groups will gather at this one place in time to show their support for southeastern Connecticut's most vulnerable neighbors? Commemorate 16 years of the Homeless Hospitality Center, and celebrate its recent advances in helping to stop homelessness before it begins. Hear the stories of people who've been homeless, and from community leaders and advocates who are doing something about it. Be energized by the music of Hugh Birdsall and DogBite. Walk a leisurely 2.5 miles throughout New London (a shorter route is available), passing important historic sites and some of the social service agencies that serve us. Be reminded of the treasures that New London offers to all of its southeast Connecticut neighbors. Enjoy a reception of snacks by Whisktopia, BJ's, the Mitchell College Dance Troupe and more at the conclusion of the Walk.
Beginning at 12 pm these organizations will be on hand to provide information and resources: Always Home, Alzheimer's Association, Center for Housing Equity and Opportunity in Eastern Connecticut (CHEO), CT LEAD, Habitat for Humanity, Hearing Youth Voices, Higher Edge, Immigration Advocacy and Support Center, Ledge Light Health District, Mitchell College, New London Community Health Center, New London Public Library, New London Youth Affairs, Safe Futures, SCADD, Start Fresh, Sound Community Services and the Second Chance Tiny Home Project. Griffin Health will be offering a vaccine and health clinic. The entire community, whether planning to Walk or not, are invited.
The affordable and available housing crisis is growing. Fundraise for this important cause by donating, registering to Walk, supporting a Walker, or forming your own team. Then, bring your protest signs, your voice, and your passion to the Walk on April 30.
Why: There is an unprecedented affordable and available housing crisis upon us. Advocate for a solution and an end to homelessness in southeast Connecticut. Approximately 500 neighbors will rely on NLHHC for emergency shelter this year, and hundreds more for help to avoid homelessness altogether. With your support, they can quickly rebuild their lives and secure permanent housing.
