About this Event

A gay working-class carnival entertainer's lottery winnings attract a wealthy, upper-class lover, with whom he begins an ill-fated romance.

This screening is a part of a trio of Saturday afternoon screenings taking place the month of June in observance of Fassbinder's untimely death at the age of 40.

In a world dominated by the market, nothing, and nobody, is free, as Fox learns. Death is the only immediate freedom he can hope for [...] whether we accept the existing oppressive state of affairs or want to change it, we have to first realize our dependence on others [...] Fox makes this point very well.

—Ruth McCormick, Cineaste
