£40
Step into the fragrant world of herbal healing and explore centuries of botanical wisdom used within the walls of Lauriston Castle. From the Tudor stillroom to the refined drawing rooms of the 1920s, discover how herbs have soothed, healed, and comforted through the ages.
In this hands-on heritage workshop, you’ll:
Craft traditional powdered healing pills, blending gentle herbs as the apothecaries once did.
Create your own soothing green ointment, inspired by time-honoured recipes for cuts, bruises, and everyday ailments.
Blend a restorative herbal tea, bringing centuries of natural remedy into your modern life.
Along the way, uncover stories of our herbal past — from the 16th-century physic gardens and household cures to the elegant 1920s enthusiasm for nature and wellbeing.

The Historical Herbalists CIC portray traditional healers and medical herbalists from the Romans to the Renaissance, the Medieval to the Modern era. Dressed in traditional clothing of the era we bring life to the role of the historical wise woman and educate about the history of medicine. Although we won’t all always be at every event, there are 3 of us, all trained Herbalists. Between us we have training in the history of medicine, archaeology, social anthropology, botany, plant folklore, and traditional crafts.
