Celebrating 15 years of the General Jam & Open Mic. Sessions:
15 years ago a new jam session was born in Lava cafe.
The idea? A general jam (any genre/format/language) to encourage song-writing.
Over the years we have stood on the shoulders of many giants.
The centre of Brussels has shown us things that only time can see.
Good friends have come and good friends have gone.
And through it all we have found a purpose together.
To create, to inspire and to share.
Edouard de Ganay’s 2019 documentary on jam sessions in Brussels was a turning point.
It highlighted some reasons why many female and non-binary artists did not feel comfortable performing at jam sessions.
The General Jam 4 Safer Spaces Campaign helped us focus on inclusivity to build safer spaces where we can create together.
And we have been creating together with the community ever since.
