It’s 15 years since I first indulged the crazy idea of taking to a stage with nothing but an acoustic guitar and my best attempt at folk punk protest bangers. Since then, I’ve been bashing that guitar all across this continent - from street corners and picket lines to loungerooms and pubs. There’s been too many gigs to count; I’ve been blessed to share the stage with some amazing artists; recorded and released albums; and hopefully inspired a few people to join me in trying to make this world a better place. Still no top 40 hits, but you know what it’s like trying to get the masses to appreciate fine art.
To celebrate 15 years (we’re almost through the awkward teenage phase!), I’m going to do a set where I delve into the archive to play some songs from over the years that don’t often make the setlist these days; and share some stories from the decade and a half long saga of writing and performing sweet songs to soundtrack smashing the system.
We will also celebrate by enjoying sets from a couple of friends who have much more recently commenced the journey of making folk music to change the world – Franz James and Sophie Nishizawa.
Starts 6:30pm (finishes early for all us oldies). Free entry, Meanjin Solidarity Fund will run a fundraiser bar.
