13 Harmonies from Apartment House 1776 - John Cage

Written in 1990, John Cage's Harmonies from Apartment House 1776 takes the history of American Hymn tune writing as it's source material. At once both a celebration and deconstruction of this tradition, Cage applies his signature chance technique to transform these Hymn tunes into a bare and fragile minimalism. Roger Zahab later collated and arranged 13 of these Harmonies (originally written in open stave) for violin and accompaniment.

Performed in the beautiful St Ninian's Church in Pollokshields (right next to Tramway), this will be a really special evening of beautiful, rarely performed music. The concert will last approximately 40 minutes.
