About this Event
Join the Mill Creek Alliance and all our partners this fall for the 12th Annual Upper Mill Creek Cleanup.
The UMCCU confirms Mill Creek Alliance commitment to completed restoration project sites by engaging volunteers and the community in cleanup, maintenance, and education efforts.
This year’s event will take place in Sharonville at the Twin Creeks Preserve (TCP), the site of a MCA restoration project that was completed in 2012. The project featured the creation of a 5-acre wetland, engineering of streambanks & man-made riffles, as well as the installation of native plants and a scenic natural trail. In 2023, MCA continued our commitment to this wetland by completing a retrofit of the invert pipes from the two creeks into the wetland. The project benefited the water quality, reduced flooding, restored habitat, reduced non-point source pollution, and created a new recreation opportunity along the bank of the Mill Creek.
Volunteers will be split into two groups: Cleanup by Canoe and Cleanup by Land. Land volunteers will pickup trash, remove invase species, and plant trees. Canoe volunteers will travel downstream from Mullhauser Rd to TCP, cleaning a section of the creek that has not been addressed for some time. Both crews will provide impactful service to the wetland and the community. Tools and instructions will be provided at the event. Lunch will be provided.
Registration for Cleanup by Canoe is REQUIRED (and seats are limited). Land crews of all sizes are welcome! If you are coming with a larger group, please call MCA so we can be sure to have appropriate tools on hand for your groups participation.
This hands dirty, feet wet cleanup will occur in different locations. All participants should meet under the picnic shelter at Twin Creeks Preserve 9 am (paddlers may be asked to arrive earlier). Volunteers should be prepared for hard work. Please dress appropriately (pants, long sleeve shirts, hats/bandanas) and wear closed-toed (heavy) footwear. Sunscreen and bug spray will be available. The land cleanup is suitable for people of all ages and activity levels. Canoe volunteer spaces are limited and available only to members of the public age 18 or older. All cleanup crews will reconvene under the picnic shelter noon to unload their spoils, enjoy some food and refreshments, and tell grand stories of their exploits.
Don't miss this opportunity to help keep the Mill Creek Watershed clean and communities beautiful!
Please RSVP. Volunteers will receive scheduling details as the event gets closer. Contact Linda Keller with questions about the event at [email protected].
