12th Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade of Lubbock 2024

For the 12th year in Lubbock, Los Hermanos Familia and Latino Lubbock Magazine are proud to announce that they will hold the official Cinco de Mayo Parade of Lubbock on Saturday, May 4, 2024! The local parade will kick off celebrations all over Lubbock and West Texas.

Theme: “Celebrating Our Roots, Celebrando nuestras raíces!"

Let's celebrate our history and our family contributions to the community, as well as the beautiful Mexican culture! All public organizations are urged to be a part of this year's parade and celebrate putting UNITY in commUNITY.

Plans for the 12th Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade of Lubbock a program of Los Hermanos Familia are underway and the date will be Saturday, May 4, 2024! Lubbock will hold its official Cinco de Mayo parade down historic Broadway. Special thanks to Latino Lubbock Magazine, Glasheen Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers, Optimum, Lamar Advertising, the City of Lubbock, and various media sponsors.

Schools, marching bands, churches, car clubs, bikers, organizations, Veterans, dance groups, sports teams, businesses and anyone wanting to join Los Hermanos Familia's effort to bring the community together are encouraged to participate.

Applications for parade entries and floats, can be found online at www.loshermanosfamilia.org on the “Get Involved” page. Be a participant, or a spectator on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

The 12th Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade of Lubbock will begin on Avenue V, moving east on historic Broadway to the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

The lineup will be at 9 a.m., the parade begins at 10 a.m., and all of the Lubbock community and surrounding areas will be welcome to take part as participants or spectators.

Collectively, many organizations, media, and supporters work for the benefit of unifying the community and building awareness about the Cinco de Mayo holiday, as well as the rich cultural observances and heritage of the Hispanic community of Lubbock and the South Plains.

We hope that you will save the date and help us to promote this annual event that last year drew over 7,000 participants.

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States and in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). Mexican Americans also often see the day as a source of pride, one way they can honor their ethnicity is to celebrate this day.

The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken to be Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.
