Online screening of Mitsutoshi Tanaka's blockbusterAbout this Event
Separated by 9,000 kilometres, the people of Japan and Turkey have fostered deep ties of friendship. In a time when people all over the world are growing steadily more suspicious of other nations over politics, economics and religion, «125 Years Memory» is an epic of hope demonstrating how fellow-feeling between one person and another can bring about a miracle.
Two historical incidents that deepened the friendship between Japan and Turkey are connected in this story of friendship and compassion: The sinking of the Turkish frigate Ertuğrul off the Japanese coast in 1890, and the evacuation of Japanese nationals from Iran during the Iran-Iraq war in 1985.
Virtuoso director Mitsutoshi Tanaka's masterpiece received the Japan Academy Film Prize in ten categories, including Best Art Direction, Excellent Film and Excellent Director.
