Mindful Art in Victoria Park is back! Starting September! Discover the world of Mindful Art with this 12week course in the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of Victoria Park Portsmouth.
What is Mindful Art?
Mindful Art is any kind of work where you focus on the process of creating something new for relaxation, enjoyment and to aid the practice of mindfulness.
Do I need any creative experience or be 'good' at drawing?
There's no such thing as 'good' when it comes to mindful art. If you can hold a pen and draw basic shapes then that's all the experience you need to get started. You will develop your 'skills' as we progress through the course and begin to have more confidence in your creativity at whatever point you start from. The most important thing is to enjoy the 'process'.
What is covered in the course?
The content of the course will include a range of techniques that are designed to help you reach a mindful state through through creativity as well as learning to create art which focuses in the moment rather than the end result. The course will incorporate; Neurographic Art, Zentangling, Timed free drawing, Intuitive painting, Affirmations, Mandalas, Dot painting and Watercolour and ink as well as incorporating words, colour and more.
What is included?
12 1.5hour guided workshops.
All materials and equipment.
Your own sketch book and pencils to get you started.
Optional homework tasks/prompts.
Do I need to bring anything?
No, everything you need for the session will be provided however you are welcome to bring your own equipment and materials if you have a preference for that.
Some people also find listening to music aids the process for them so you may also wish to bring headphones and something to listen to for when we are practicing the different techniques.
When is it?
Sessions run weekly for an hour and a half in term time, on Thursday Evenings starting at 6:15pm and ending at 7:45pm. The dates are as follows: 25th Sep, 2nd Oct, 9th Oct, 16th Oct, 23rd Oct, (NO SESSION 30th Oct as half term), 6th Nov, 13th Nov, 20th Nov, 27th Nov, 4th Dec, 11th Dec, 18th Dec.
Where is is?
The course is held in The Greenhouse situated in the centre of Victoria Park in Portsmouth. There are pathways from all entrances to the Park leading to the venue.
How do I get there?
The Park is situated within the city centre only a short walk from the main shopping area and the Guildhall enabling easy access via bus, train, or car. Parking is available in the city car parks and there is also some road pay meter parking around the edge of the park.
How accessable is it?
The Greenhouse is on ground level however please be aware that there is a short walk through the park to reach the venue. The toilets are located to the rear of the building and are suitable for wheelchair users. Please get in touch if you require any further information.
Are there refreshments?
We will have a kettle with tea, coffee, water and biscuits where you can help yourself to refreshments free of charge.
What does it cost?
£156 in full or £60 deposit and pay £8pw on the day.
Support workers/carer places are free when accompanying a full paying adult.
There are a small number of reduced cost places available if cost is a barrier.
