In partnership with the Living Traditions Festival, we are presenting a special 12 Minutes Max program celebrating diverse cultural traditions, perspectives, and communities.
Raj & Will are a duo based in Salt Lake City and enjoy human-powered activities. When they're not playing music, you might find them outside climbing, skiing, hiking, running, and biking. They will be performing an original composition featuring tabla, cajon, and acoustic guitar. The overall piece has no title, but the movements are named Antes de Quinto and Besinçi. To complement the music, they’ve prepared a visual accompaniment of self-produced clips and visual effects using video synthesis. Please be advised that these visuals include sections with flashing light sequences.
Dua Azhar is a Pakistani-American filmmaker based in Salt Lake City, dedicated to telling visually compelling stories from diverse diaspora communities. As a writer with a background in photography and cinematography, her goal is to bring stories to life in a visually impactful manner that highlights the unique cultures of people while uniting the humanity we all share.
Dua will be presenting Jaani, a short film about a Punjabi bride that gets kidnapped from her wedding by her two best friends, only for their car to break down in the middle of nowhere Utah. With a primarily South Asian cast and filmed entirely in Utah, this film showcases the internal push and pulls of the South Asian diaspora and what female autonomy is regardless of society.
Salt Lake City based psychedelic band, MUSOR — with its four members representing Peru, Guatemala and the U.S. — have been performing together for 10 years, adventuring to the U.S. in search of that perfect rock-and-roll tone. They stand ready to play an unearthly experience of dynamic musical psychedelia and story in their native tongue, castellano.
12 Minutes Max is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague Paul Reynolds: artist, librarian, and patron of the arts. The 12 Minutes Max program is a curated monthly performance series featuring experimental short works by local artists in many different disciplines, including dance, music, film, and more. Each piece is followed by a Q&A with the artist. 12MM is modeled after the program originated by On the Boards in Seattle.
