people keep wanting to do this, for reasons i don't fully understand, so without pushing this off any longer, here is the info for this year's 12ks of christmas. below is copied and pasted from previous year's events. the only real change is that i plan to have a few more questions on hand. i don't know if i have an elf for a helper, but we will have both krampus and knecht ruprecht. if any want to volunteer to assist either father christmas, or his nefarious compatriots in the sin bin, let me know.
meet at the bay city rowing club at noon to trot along a 1k course, more or less, at least twelve times. at each lap, you will be stopped to answer a seasonal trivia question, the outcome of which brings 2 possibilities:
1. get this question right, continue on with your next lap.
2. get the question wrong, you are pulled off the course to meet krampus and knecht ruprecht. you can either drink some hootch or do some exercises. you will not be released until they are satisfied. you then continue on with your next loop.
these rules may be tweaked to suit father christmas' whimsy and amusement, but the basics will always remain intact.
continue trotting on with these loops until the last person starts their 12th lap, at which point father christmas will be saddled with whatever knecht ruprecht and krampus want to give him and run the final kilometer with the last person. any and all are encouraged to join with whatever they see fit.
speedier people or knowledgeable people will likely do more than 12 laps, if they so desire, and those people will be rewarded, albeit pathetically. other rewards will be doled out haphazardly since this is about moving your body for a while and perhaps eking out some amusement.
minors and teetotalers, i'll find something other than john barleycorn for you, so you can have the same option as the rest of us drunks.
if you plan to attend, please click "going" as this is the only method i'll have to making sure i have enough...stuff...to cover. you click "interested", i will assume you are just there to spectate.
you won't get a shirt, an official time, a medal, aid stations, proper rewards, or christmas music. what you will get is attitude, exercise, abuse, some chocolates, a laugh or two, and maybe a token of appreciation. i might even get some pizza to help warm your bones.
cold and flu season is coming so please refrain from sneezing in other people's mouths and licking the inside of noses.
in years past, the wind has not been sparing in exacerbating the chill factor. don't be bashful about layering up.
cost - 27 cents for the goat-y bank. bribes of beer are also welcome. they will get you nowhere, but father christmas will be pleased just the same. as with the crawling chaos, the entry fee is voluntary. bribes, however, will earn you a hug.
