WINN is an organization that provides immediate relief supplies such as bottled water, non-perishable food items, hygiene products, first aid supplies, socks, underwear, t-shirts, hand warmers, gloves, batteries, flashlights, blankets, jackets, and much more. They lovingly care for our un-sheltered and marginalized neighbors wherever they may be and accept individuals as they are without judgement.
WAFER is the largest food pantry serving all of La Crosse County. For many people WAFER is the last resort.
• We serve 1500+ families (about 3000 people) monthly. Nearly 39,000 total individuals were served in 2023.
• WAFER distributed 19,478 food packages in 2023.
• A food package provides each person in a family about 4 to 5 days worth of food.
• In 2023, 1.8 million pounds, equivalent to 1.5 million meals, were given out.
LAVMP – La Crosse Area Veterans Mentor Program performs 4 main functions: recruiting and training mentors; locating veterans in need of services; assisting veterans as they work to rebuild their lives; and fundraising to sustain the program. Many veterans in the legal system end up in the La Crosse Area Veterans Court. LAVMP supports this treatment court through mentorship of veteran participants and logistics. LAVMP works mainly with Veterans in La Crosse, Monroe, Vernon, Trempealeau, and Jackson counties along with veterans from 21 other counties. Veterans in need of the services of LAVMP offers are those who generally isolate, hide their substance abuse, engage in harmful behaviors, exercise poor self-care and often end up in the legal system. After connecting with these veterans and building a trusting relationship many of these veterans are encouraged to finally address their needs.
• LAVMP has provided services to over 2000 veterans since 2010
• Trained over 46 veteran mentors
• Works with all branches of service and served in various conflicts since Vietnam
• Over 60 have participated in La Crosse Area Veterans Court
• 34 have graduated from LCAVC
