We are very pleased to announce the host of the TRAM-EM 2024 today. The 11th edition of the European Tramdriver Championship will take place on September 14, 2024 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The city and its local transport service provider VGF are looking forward to 25 teams from 20 nation. For the competitions, an approximately 200m long course with 6 disciplines will be created in the city center, which will have to be completed in two competition runs.
The tasks include classics such as “Perfect Stop” - stopping at a defined door with centimeter precision - or “Emergency Brake” - a reaction test in which the braking distance is measured. There are also audience highlights such as TRAM-Bowling, in which a 1.5m ball has to be pushed into 2m high pins using the lane. The challenge is the right timing of acceleration, speed when making contact with the ball and the ability to react when braking at lightning speed. The requirements for TRAM-Billiards are completely different: delicate rolling with the 40-ton-vehicle and then touching the cue so that it pushes the billiard ball well over the table. That's great sensitivity! There are also other disciplines that will celebrate their premiere in Frankfurt.
The competitions of the 11th European Tramdriver Championships will be accompanied by a large family celebration. A show stage, children's entertainment and a large information area about public transport in Frankfurt am Main await you. Entry is free.
For the teams, the TRAM-EM begins on Friday with the training. Here the focus is on getting to know the different Frankfurt tram models. In the evening it's time to network with colleagues from all over Europe.

Die 11. Auflage der Straßenbahn Europameisterschaft findest am 14. September 2024 in Frankfurt am Main statt. Die Stadt und ihr lokaler Verkehrsdienstleister VGF freuen sich auf 25 Teams aus 20 Ländern. Für die Wettbewerbe entsteht im Stadtzentrum ein ca. 200m langer Parcours mit 6 Disziplinen, der in zwei Wertungsläufen zu absolvieren ist.
Zu den Aufgaben zählen Klassiker, wie „Perfect Stop - das zentimetergenaue Anhalten an einer definierten Tür - oder „Emergency Brake“ - ein Reaktionstest, bei dem der Bremsweg gemessen wird. Hinzu kommen Publikumshighlights, wie TRAM-Bowling, bei dem ein 1,5m großer Ball mit der Bahn in 2m hohe Pins zu stoßen ist. Die Herausforderung liegt dabei im richtigen Timing aus Beschleunigung, Geschwindigkeit beim Ballkontakt und dem Reaktionsvermögen beim blitzschnellen Bremsen. Ganz anders die Anforderungen beim TRAM-Billard: feinfühliges Anrollen mit der 40 Tonnen schweren Bahn und dann den Queue so berühren, dass der die Billardkugel gut über den Tisch stößt. Das ist Fingerspitzengefühl Hoch3! Hinzu kommen weitere Disziplinen, die in Frankfurt Premiere feiern werden.
Die Wettbewerbe der 11. TRAM-EM werden durch ein großes Familienfest begleitet. Eine Showbühne, Kinderanimation und ein großes Infoareal rund um den ÖPNV in Frankfurt am Main erwarten Euch. Der Eintritt ist frei.
Für die Teams beginnt die TRAM-EM bereits am Freitag mit dem Training. Hier liegt der Fokus auf dem Kennenlernen der verschiedenen Frankfurter Straßenbahnmodelle. Am Abend heisst es Netzwerken mit Berufskolleg*innen aus ganz Europa.
