Memorial Day honors the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military. As a veteran, I believe it is important to set aside time from the holiday festivities to reflect on and thank those who have paid the ultimate price in defense of the country we love.I invite you to join me on Monday, May 25, 2026, for a Memorial Day walk from The Sawmill Museum to Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche, Iowa. Rose Hill hosts one of the best Memorial Day services I have ever attended; it brings a tear to my eye every year.
We will meet at 6:30 a.m. in the large parking lot north of The Sawmill Museum. Depending on our pace, the walk will take approximately three hours.
Please bring enough water, a cell phone (in case you need a ride home), sunblock, and some aspirin or other preferred pain reliever. I will have a flag at the front of our formation, carried by a designated guide-on bearer.
The Memorial Day ceremony at Rose Hill Cemetery will begin at 10:00 a.m.
For your return trip home or back to your vehicle, I recommend arranging for someone to meet you at Rose Hill. If your driver has a van, please coordinate a carpool back to The Sawmill Museum.
Our inaugural walk featured three motivated patriots, a few heavy packs, plenty of laughs, and a fantastic experience. I hope you will consider being part of the journey!
If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected] or message me on Facebook Messenger.
P.S. Wear comfortable shoes or boots. Do not buy a brand-new pair just for the march. Make sure they are broken in and ready for the mileage. Blisters can happen, so walk around beforehand and check for hot spots.
