A mini-conference with academics, journalists and audience unpack events with the benefit of hindsight
About this Event

On the tenth anniversary of the United Kingdom’s historic vote to leave the European Union, The Constitution Society and Ulster University will host a thought-provoking mini conference, bringing together leading experts, political figures, and members of the public. The event, held at Ulster University’s Belfast campus, provided a timely opportunity to reflect on one of the most consequential political decisions in recent British history, and to assess its impact a decade on.

Speakers will consider the complexities of negotiating withdrawal, and the subsequent legislative changes that have redefined the UK’s relationship with the EU and its own internal constitutional arrangements. The event will also look at the challenges faced by devolved administrations, particularly in Northern Ireland, in adapting to the new realities brought about by Brexit. Consideration will also be given to the lessons learned from the negotiation process, the impact on intergovernmental relationships within the UK, and how Brexit has reshaped political discourse.

This event will serve as a valuable forum for honest reflection, informed debate, and the sharing of insights that will shape the next chapter of the UK’s constitutional journey.

Join Professors Jon Tonge (University of Liverpool), Stephen Farry (Ulster University) and Katy Hayward (Queen's University) and leading journalists from that period who will go through the lessons and legacy of Brexit.

Attendees will be greeted at ground floor reception and signposted to the sixth floor atrium
