About this Event
10 years of Poverty Proofing©
Using voice to rethink and reframe how to tackle poverty
Recognised nationally, Poverty Proofing© is a unique model created by Children North East which aims to address the structural inequalities in systems and organisations that impact those facing financial hardship. The principle is to look at the experience through the lens of those affected by poverty, and to make recommendations on practice and policy to enable equal access to services and opportunities at a systemic level.
Since 2014 we have been working with schools through our Poverty Proofing© the School Day programme, a powerful tool for identifying the barriers children living in poverty face, engaging fully with school life and its opportunities. The work has expanded significantly into healthcare, the cultural sector, the Early Years and most recently Family Hubs.
To mark our ten-year anniversary, we'll be delivering a conference that will share collective learning of partners and collaborators across education, healthcare and the cultural sector.
Sessions will be delivered in a variety of keynotes, panels and fireside chats:
- Case studies of Poverty Proofing© in education, healthcare and culture; with practical examples of place-based approaches
- Approaches to change that have led to organisational transformation.
- Consultation methods: how we can ensure the we voices we are collecting will be acted upon
- Cross sector collaboration that uses the voice of those living in poverty to inform new ways of working
This whole day event will be held at the Discovery Museum, approximately 5 mins from Newcastle Central Station.
The focus of the day will be on learning, reflecting, exploring new ways forward, and forging new collaborations for everyone attending. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
This conference is aimed at both those who are new to - and familiar with - our work across all sectors.
We want our event to be inclusive as possible and are delighted to be able to offer flexibly priced tickets due to the generous support of the Kavli Trust, who have funded significant parts of our Poverty Proofing© the School Day work since 2022.
Suggested donations are £50 per ticket for larger or private organisations, £20 for smaller or voluntary organisations or individuals, or you can donate according to your means or wishes (minimum donation £1).
As we’re a charity, every penny helps us to continue to deliver our work, whether it is to cover the additional costs for the conference such as speakers, or to help us support more children, babies and young people through our work.
If you have any issues at all in accessing tickets, please email us at [email protected]
