Topic: The Federal Budget's CGT changes - what they mean for you and your clients
The recent Federal Budget has reshaped the capital gains tax rules more than at any time in recent memory, with the changes taking effect on 1 July 2027. This practical session covers the headline measures - the removal of the 50% CGT discount, the move to cost base indexation and the new 30% minimum tax on capital gains - and what they will mean for your clients and your practice.
The session would cover:
- the removal of the 50% CGT discount for individuals and trusts, and the transitional rules that accompany it;
- the treatment of pre-CGT assets, including pre-CGT interests in trusts;
- the new CGT method statement and the four new c10ategories of capital gain;
- cost base indexation from 1 July 2027;
- the 30% minimum tax on capital gains; and
- the changes to the active asset reduction rules.
